Today we are recognizing one of the often overlooked pieces of chicken, the chicken drumstick. Oh, yes, there it is. In all of its chicken-y glory. Smothered in a sauce that’s sweet, savory, and spicy all at the same time.
Don’t even bother with a fork for this one. Sweet & Sticky Oven Baked Chicken Drumsticks are a lick-your-fingers-clean kind of meal. Kind of like BBQ, I’d even consider throwing these on the grill in the warm weather.
Did I mention how incredibly EASY these are to make? No frying necessary, thank you. Just dip ’em, bake ’em, and eat ’em.

After a long weekend of relaxing, cooking, blogging, sitting with my feet up, snuggling with the cat, and hanging out with the family, there’s nothing better than getting back to a good, solid routine of waking up early and driving to work on a cold winter morning.
Ok, so I was exhausted just writing that.
Let’s face it, I’d rather still be on vacation. But I do love my job, so it’s more the waking up early part that I struggle with. I just want to sleep until 9 am-ish. Right now I wake up around 5:30 am, maybe the early-morning-gods will compromise with me and make it an even 8 am. Hey, a girl can dream, right?
Either way, I probably won’t have much energy to spend cooking tonight, so I’ll be looking for easy, quick, and satisfying dinner options. There’s always One Pot Lemon Garlic Chicken with Yellow Rice. Or maybe even One Pot Chicken Penne with Tomato and Basil. Or, my mother’s favorite, a bag of microwave popcorn.
I made some gingerbread dough last night, so while these Sweet & Sticky Oven Baked Chicken Drumsticks are in the oven, it’ll give me a chance to punch out my cookies and get them on a baking sheet. Even though I already had these over the weekend. And again for leftovers.
I just can’t get enough! So, I will be making them again tonight. And maybe again next week.

- 12 chicken drumsticks
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup gluten free tamari
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp corn starch
- 1 tsp dried ginger
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a large baking sheet (or line with parchment paper).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, white sugar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, honey, sesame oil, lemon juice, corn starch, and cayenne pepper.
- Dip drumstick into sauce, coating entirely. Place drumstick on baking sheet. Repeat for all drumsticks.
- Pour any remaining sauce over drumsticks.
- Bake drumsticks for 15 minutes. Using tongs or a fork, turn drumsticks over and cook for an additional 15 minutes, or until drumsticks are cooked through.
Soy sauce usually contains wheat. If you're gluten free, you'll need to use a brand that specifically says "gluten free" on the label.
