Mango Salsa in 5 Minutes

Mango Salsa is one of my all-time favorite sides to make during grilling season. I like to make a big bowl of this on the weekend and add it on top of grilled chicken, fish, shrimp, or even serve it with chips.

How to Make Mango Salsa

To make mango salsa, you need 4 main ingredients: Mango, Red Onion, Red Bell Pepper, and Cilantro. Technically, you can get away with just mixing these four ingredients together and go! But I like to add a little bit more flavor, and you can play around with what you add here. I like a little bit of lime juice, vinegar, salt, and sugar. You can also use lemon juice, cumin, or cayenne if you like it spicy!

Can you make mango salsa without cilantro?

You can definitely leave the cilantro out of mango salsa if you don’t like the flavor. I like that it adds some brightness to the dish, try replacing it with fresh mint. Add only a little bit at a time, so it doesn’t become overpowering.

How To Use Mango Salsa

Mango Salsa goes perfectly with any grilled chicken, pork, or fish (or tofu if you’re vegetarian). I also like to set this out with a bowl of chips to snack on, but mango salsa also goes great with fish or shrimp tacos!

Tips for Making Mango Salsa

  • You can make this spicy by adding some diced jalapeno. For extra spicy, don’t remove the seeds or veins from the jalapeno! You can also try a dash of cayenne pepper.
  • This goes great with fish like tilapia or salmon, or over grilled chicken or tacos. I also like dipping tortilla chips in it!
  • Some recipes call for tomato or avocado, you can add some diced roma tomatoes or avocados if you have them.
  • Try to choose a mango that’s not too ripe, so it holds its shape. You don’t want it to be under-ripe so it’s not sweet, but you don’t want it to be overripe and mushy. Find the middle ground.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste if you want to.
  • Cut all of the ingredients into small pieces, so when you mix them together you get a more even distribution. It’s also more visually pleasing, so if you’re serving it at a party it will look better!

How to Make Hawaiian Mango Salsa (Pineapple Mango Salsa)

You can easily turn this recipe into Hawaiian Mango Salsa (aka Pineapple Mango Salsa) by adding 1-2 cups of pineapple pieces. Either cut the pineapple up yourself, or if you don’t mind more liquid in the salsa just use a can of pineapple chunks or crushed pineapple.
