Sausage Egg Hash Brown Casserole Uses Simple Ingredients!

One of the things I absolutely love about this sausage egg hash brown casserole is that it uses really simple ingredients that I already have in my pantry. One of the main ingredients is a bag of frozen shredded hash browns. These are so versatile, that I try to keep at least one bag in my freezer at all times. You can also swap out the cheeses for whatever kind you have. I’ve made this sausage egg hash brown casserole with Swiss cheese before and it was awesome!

Does Sausage Egg Cheese Hash Brown Casserole Have To Use Sausage?

You can swap in other meats with this casserole with no issues. But, it won’t be aĀ sausageĀ egg cheese hash brown casserole anymore. But, the flavor will still be great if you use ground beef, turkey, bacon, or even ham. Whatever you have on hand! My personal favorite will always be sausage, though. It adds a really nice flavor to this make ahead breakfast casserole. It’s a little bit savory and salty, but also hearty and filling. But go with your own favorite!

You can also control the heat in this make ahead breakfast casserole by using bell peppers instead of poblano. Or, if you want more spice, you can use a hot Italian sausage (just make sure it’s gluten free!).

Are hash browns gluten free?

It’s hard to navigate what’s gluten free and what’s not, especially if you’re just starting out on the diet. I have a lot of people ask me, are hash browns gluten free? It’s really common to confuse gluten with other starchy foods, like potatoes. But, you’ll be happy to learn that they are, in fact, on the menu today!

Yes, hash browns are gluten free. Hash browns are usually just shredded potatoes, with a little bit of oil or butter, fried in a skillet. Where you find a grey area is pre-packaged hash browns you can find in the frozen isle of the grocery store. These can have added ingredients which aren’t guaranteed to be gluten free. So just make sure whatever brand you have is labeled gluten free.
