Greek Turkey Burgers are an EASY summertime dinner, made with simple mediterranean ingredients like olives, feta, red onion, and fresh herbs mixed with lean ground turkey. I like to top these burgers with my Homemade Tzatziki Sauce or Whipped Feta Dip, or you can keep it simple with some red onion, cucumber slices, and lettuce. These turkey burgers freeze well and are ready in under 45 minutes, with half of the time just chilling in the refrigerator before grilling!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Mediterranean Flavors – This is a classic turkey burger with a mediterranean twist! I’m using feta cheese, kalamata olives, spinach, fresh herbs, and spices to give them that fresh flavor you get from Greek cuisine.

Perfect for Meal Prep – I love making a batch of these for our weekly meal prep, because they’re made from lean ground turkey and healthy veggies!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Individual ingredients for Greek Turkey Burgers on a table.

Ground Turkey. I like to use 93% lean ground turkey to keep it light but still flavorful. You could also use regular ground turkey, ground chicken, or ground beef.

Feta Cheese. This adds a salty and tangy flavor and helps add a little bit of fat and moisture to the burger.

Red Onion. I like the flavor of red onion, and once they’re cooked in the burger they’re not too sharp. You could also use a yellow or Vidalia onion.

Spinach. I like to add veggies whenever I can, so I roughly chopped a handful of baby spinach and added it to the burgers.

You can also use frozen spinach, but defrost and drain the spinach first so it’s not watery.

Kalamata Olives. This is a classic mediterranean ingredient, just make sure they’re pitted, drained, and give them a rough chop.

Garlic. Fresh garlic cloves will always taste the best. You’ll get the most flavor throughout the burger if you use a fine grater or a garlic press.

If you don’t have fresh, you can always use 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder.

Fresh Herbs. This is where the classic Greek flavors are coming from, using plenty of fresh dill and fresh parsley.

Worcestershire Sauce. This adds a really nice savory note to the turkey. Make sure it’s gluten free, because this can vary by brand.

Spices. All you’ll need is some dried oregano, a pinch of nutmeg, kosher salt, and black pepper.

Gluten Free Burger Buns. If you’re not gluten free, you can use the regular ones.

Kitchen Tools

For this Greek burgers recipe you’ll need a medium mixing bowl and a grill, or a large sauté or grill pan.

How to Make Greek Turkey Burgers

A glass bowl on a table with all of the greek turkey burger ingredients before being mixed together.

Add all of the ingredients to a medium mixing bowl. With your hands, gently mix everything together until just combined, being careful not to over-mix.

Form the mixture into 4 burger patties, pressing gently on the middle to make sure they’re even. Refrigerate for 20 minutes before cooking.

On a grill over medium-high heat, cook the burgers for 5-6 minutes, then turn over and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes on the other side.

The burgers are done when they’re fully cooked through and have an internal temperature of 165°F with a meat thermometer.

Once the burgers are done and removed from the grill, place the buns on the grill and toast for 1-2 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Assemble the burgers with your favorite toppings (like red onion and tzatziki sauce) and serve.

Recipe Variations

  • You can make this lighter by serving the burgers with lettuce wraps instead of buns, or over salad greens.
  • Try adding more flavor with diced sun-dried tomatoes, lemon zest, fresh mint, or fresh basil.
  • If you want a kick, add some red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or hot sauce to the mixture before forming the burger patties.
  • If your burger mixture is too soft, add a small amount of gluten free bread crumbs until it is firm enough to form into patties.
  • Make these in the air fryer at 375°F for 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Try serving this with grilled portobello mushrooms and grilled onions.

Recipe Tip! Be careful not to over-mix the burgers before making the patties. You want the ingredients to be just combined, so the burgers don’t turn out dense.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I serve with Greek turkey burgers?

Greek turkey burgers are full of bright mediterranean flavors, and pair perfectly with my homemade tzatziki sauce, cucumber, red onion slices, cherry tomatoes, butter lettuce, and fresh lemon wedges. On the side, I like to serve these with Baked Sweet Potato Fries and roasted vegetables like zucchini, asparagus, or Roasted Potatoes and Green Beans. I also like to have some more crumbled feta on the side.

Recipe Tip! If you don’t like chopping, you can pulse the onion, herbs, and olives in the food processor. I like to pulse the food processor so the ingredients don’t turn mushy.

Storage

Refrigerate Greek turkey burgers for 3-4 days in an airtight container.

Freeze leftover burgers for 2-3 months in a freezer-safe container. Freeze the burgers with a piece of parchment paper between each patty, to prevent them from sticking together.

Cooking Tips

  • Press the burger patties down gently in the middle before grilling, to help them cook more evenly.
  • If you have time, chilling the burger patties in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes before grilling can help them hold together better.
  • Before I turn on the grill, I dip a paper towel in canola oil and very lightly coat the grill grates. You only need a small amount, if the oil is dripping you’ve used too much. I don’t use olive oil, because the smoke point is too low.
  • Avoid pressing on the burgers as they’re cooking, to avoid losing any of the juices that help keep them tender.
  • If the burger mixture is sticking to your hands while forming the patties, use a few drops of olive oil to oil your hands.
  • These Greek burgers are done when they reach an internal temperature of 165°F. Don’t cook them past this, because they can dry easily.
